Vedic Shanti Mantra

कृष्ण यजुर्वेद तैत्तिरीय उपनिषद्
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ॐ शं नो मित्रः शं वरुणः । शं नो भवत्वर्यमा ।

शं नो इन्द्रो बृहस्पतिः । शं नो विष्णुरुरुक्रमः ।


Meaning:

1: Om, May Mitra be Propitious with Us, May Varuna be Propitious with Us,
2: May the Honourable Aryama be Propitious with Us,
3: May Indra and Brihaspati be Propitious with Us,
4: May Vishnu with Long Strides be Propitious with Us,


नमो ब्रह्मणे । नमस्ते वायो । त्वमेव प्रत्यक्षं ब्रह्मासि ।

त्वामेव प्रत्यक्षं ब्रह्म वदिष्यामि । ॠतं वदिष्यामि । सत्यं वदिष्यामि ।

Meaning:

5: Salutations to Brahman,
6: Salutations to Vayu (the Breath of Purusha),
7: You Indeed are the Visible Brahman,
8: I Proclaim, You Indeed are the Visible Brahman,
9: I Speak about the Divine Truth,
10: I Speak about the Absolute Truth,


तन्मामवतु । तद्वक्तारमवतु । अवतु माम् । अवतु वक्तारम् ॥

ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥

Meaning:

11: May That Protect Me,
12: May That Protect the Preceptor,
13: Protect Me,
14: Protect the Preceptor,
15: Om Peace, Peace, Peace.

कृष्ण यजुर्वेद कठोपनिषद
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ॐ सह नाववतु । सह नौ भुनक्तु । सह वीर्यं करवावहै ।

तेजस्वि नावधीतमस्तु मा विद्विषावहै ।

ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥

Meaning:
1: Om, May God Protect us Both (the Teacher and the Student) (during the journey of awakening our Knowledge),
2: May God Nourish us Both (with that spring of Knowledge which nourishes life when awakened),
3: May we Work Together with Energy and Vigour (cleansing ourselves with that flow of energy for the Knowledge to manifest),
4: May our Study be Enlightening (taking us towards the true Essence underlying everything), and not giving rise to Hostility (by constricting the understanding of the Essence in a particular manifestation only),
5: Om, Peace, Peace, Peace (be there in the three levels - Adhidaivika, Adhibhautika and Adhyatmika).

कृष्ण यजुर्वेद तैत्तिरीय उपनिषद् (स्वरूपबोध उपनिषद )

ॐ यश्छन्द सामृषभो विश्वरूप | छन्दोभ्यो ध्यामृतात सम्बभूव |
स मेन्द्रो मेधया स्पृणोतु | अमृतस्य देव धारण भूयासम |
शरीरं में विचर्षणं | जिह्वा में मधुमत्तमा | कर्णाभ्यां भूरि विश्रुवम |
ब्रम्हाणाः कोशोसि मेधया पिहितः | श्रुतं में गोपाय |
ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥

Meaning:

May He, the Lord of all, pre-eminent among the Vedas and superior to the nectar contained in them, bless me with wisdom! May I be adorned with the knowledge of Brahman that leads to immortality! May my body become strong and vigorous (to practise meditation)! May my tongue always utter delightful words! May I hear much with my ears! Thou art the scabbard of Brahman hidden by worldly taints (not revealed by impure, puny intellects). May I never forget all that I have learnt! Om peace, peace, peace!

कृष्ण यजुर्वेद तैत्तिरीय उपनिषद् (ब्रह्मानुभव उपनिषद )

ॐ अहम् वृक्ष्यस्य रेरिवा | कीर्तिः पृष्ठं गिरेरिवा |
ऊर्ध्वपवित्रो वजिनीव स्वमृतमस्मि | द्रविड़ं सवर्चसम |
सुमेधा अमृतोक्षितः | इति त्रिसंकोरवेदानुवचनं |
ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥


Meaning:
I am the destroyer of the tree (of samsar; worldly life). My reputation is as high as the top of the hill. I am in essence as pure as the sun. I am the highest treasure. I am all-wise, immortal and indestructible. This is Trishanku’s realisation. Om peace, peace, peace!

शुक्ल यजुर्वेद ईशावास्या उपनिषद्
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ॐ पूर्णमदः पूर्णमिदं पूर्णात्पुर्णमुदच्यते

पूर्णस्य पूर्णमादाय पूर्णमेवावशिष्यते ॥

ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥

Meaning:
1: Om, That (Outer World) is Purna (Full with Divine Consciousness); This (Inner World) is also Purna (Full with Divine Consciousness); From Purna comes Purna (From the Fullness of Divine Consciousness the World is manifested) ,
2: Taking Purna from Purna, Purna Indeed Remains (Because Divine Consciousness is Non-Dual and Infinite).
3: Om Peace, Peace, Peace.

सामवेद केनो-उपनिषद्
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ॐ आप्यायन्तु ममाङ्गानि वाक प्राणश्चक्षुः श्रोत्रमथो बलमिन्द्रियाणि च सर्वाणि |
सर्वं ब्रह्मौपनिषदं माहं ब्रह्मा निराकरोद निराकरणमस्त्व निराकरणं में अस्तु |
तदात्मनि निरते य उपनिषास्तु धर्मास्ते मयि सन्तु ते मयि सन्तु |
ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥


Meaning:
May my limbs, speech, Prana, eye, ear and power of all my senses grow vigorous! All is the pure Brahman of the Upanishads. May I never deny that Brahman! May that Brahman never desert me! Let that relationship endure. Let the virtues recited in the Upanishads be rooted in me. May they repose in me! Om peace. peace. peace!

ऋग्वेद ऐतरेय उपनिषद्
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ॐ वाङ् मे मनसि प्रतिष्ठिता । मनो मे वाचि प्रतिष्ठितम् ।

आविराविर्म एधि । वेदस्य म आणीस्थः ।

श्रुतं मे मा प्रहासीः अनेनाधीतेनाहोरात्रान्सन्दधामि ।

Meaning:

1: Om, Let My Speech be Established in My Mind,
2: Let My Mind be Established in My Speech,
3: Let the Knowledge of the Self-Manifest Atman Grow in Me,
4: Let My Mind and Speech be the Support to Experience the Knowledge of the Vedas,
5: Let what is Heard by Me (from the Vedas) be Not a mere Appearance ...
6: ... but what is Gained by Studying Day and Night be Retained.


ऋतं वदिष्यामि । सत्यं वदिष्यामि । तन्मामवतु । तद्वक्तारमवतु ।

अवतु माम् । अवतु वक्तारामवतु वक्तारम् ॥

ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥


Meaning:
7: I Speak about the Divine Truth,
8: I Speak about the Absolute Truth,
9: May That Protect Me,
10: May That Protect the Preceptor,
11: May that Protect Me,
12: May that Protect the Preceptor, May that Protect the Preceptor,
13: Om Peace, Peace, Peace.

ब्रह्मरहस्य-उपनिषद्
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ॐ भद्रं नो अपिवातय मनः | ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥

Meaning:
Salutations! May my mind and all these (the body, senses,
breath etc.) be good and well! Om peace, peace. peace!

अथर्ववेद प्रश्नो उपनिषद्
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ॐ भद्रं कर्णेभिः शृणुयाम देवाः । भद्रं पश्येमाक्षभिर्यजत्राः ।

स्थिरैरङ्गैस्तुष्टुवाग्‍ँसस्तनूभिः । व्यशेम देवहितं यदायूः ।

Meaning:
1: Om, O Devas, May we Hear with our Ears what is Auspicious,
2: May we See with our Eyes what is Auspicious and Adorable,
3: May we be Prayerful (in Life) with Steadiness in our Bodies (and Minds),
4: May we Offer our Lifespan allotted by the Devas (for the Service of God),


स्वस्ति न इन्द्रो वृद्धश्रवाः । स्वस्ति नः पूषा विश्ववेदाः ।

स्वस्ति नस्तार्क्ष्यो अरिष्टनेमिः । स्वस्ति नो वृहस्पतिर्दधातु ॥

ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥


Meaning:

5: May Indra (of Vedas) of great Wisdom and Glory grant us Well-Being (by bestowing wisdom),
6: May Pushan (The Sun God, The Nourisher) of great Knowledge grant us Well-Being (by nourishing us and granting knowledge),
7: May Tarksya (A Mythical Bird) of great Protective Power ( a thunderbolt to misfortunes ) grant us Well-Being (by protecting us from misfortunes),
8: (And) May Brihaspati (The Guru of the Devas) grant us Well-Being,
9: Om, Peace, Peace, Peace (at the Adibhautika, Adidaivika and Adyatmika levels),

योगसार उपनिषद्
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ॐ यो ब्राह्मणं विदधाति पूर्वं | यो वै वेदांश्चा प्रहिणोति तस्मै |

तं ह देवमात्मबुद्धिप्रकाशं मुमुक्षुर्वै शरणमहं प्रपद्ये |

ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥

Meaning:
He who creates this entire universe in the beginning, and He about whom the Vedas gloriously praise and sing, in Him I take refuge with the firm faith and belief that my intellect may shine with Self-knowledge. Om peace, peace, peace!

ॐ द्यौः शान्तिर-अन्तरिक्षं शान्तिः

पृथिवी शान्तिर-अपः शान्तिर अषधयः शान्तिः ।

वनस्पतयः शान्तिर विश्वे देवाः शान्तिर र्ब्रह्म शान्तिः

सर्वं शान्तिः शान्तिरेव शान्तिः सा मा शान्तिरेधि ॥

ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥

Meaning:
1: Om, May there be Peace in Heaven, May there be Peace in the Sky,
2: May there be Peace in the Earth, May there be Peace in the Water, May there be Peace in the Plants,
3: May there be Peace in the Trees, May there be Peace in the Gods in the various Worlds, May there be Peace in Brahman,
4: May there be Peace in All, May there be Peace Indeed within Peace, Giving Me the Peace which Grows within Me,
5: Om, Peace, Peace, Peace.
